Fun Burrito Facts


With Burritos being such a hit in The Dock since being welcomed at Street Food Revolution, we thought we would delve into the history of our floured wrapped friends and find out a little more...


Here are some fun facts we found for you...

  • The word Burrito means Little Donkey in Spanish
  • The burrito is the traditional food of the city of Juarez in northern Mexico
  • Burritos made in Mexico are made thin and small and are only made with one ore two ingredients
  • Burritos made in the United states are bigger and contain multiple ingredients such as meat or vegetables
  • In 1958 the burrito appeared in the Oxford English Dictionary.
  • The flour tortilla is usually lightly grilled or steamed, to soften it and make it more pliable.
  • When fried, Burritos become Chimichangas
  • The burrito was made popular by Northern Mexican and American gold miners
