Solent Sorts It - The Rubbish Project

It’s not everywhere that doing the rubbish tasks can win you prizes but it does if you live at Kimber, Hamwic, Chantry, Deanery or Emily Davies. The residences team have been monitoring kitchen rubbish and will be announcing the best kitchens after Easter. Read on to find out more...

It’s not too late to make a difference to your kitchen scores just separate your rubbish properly: make sure that tea bags, kitchen scraps and other food goes into your little green bin; rinse out your glass bottles and jars and take them to the main recycling points; separate the rest in to recyclable or contaminated and put it into the right kitchen bins.

If you want some help with getting things right why not speak to one of the residence team or refer to the posters around the residences? It costs £90/tonne to dispose of contaminated waste and only £60/tonne for dry, mixed recyclables so very quickly the University starts saving money on rubbish things which they can then spend on good things.

Sodexo will be sponsoring the prize for BEST OVERALL KITCHEN and that great prize consists of a free lunch at The Dock (up to the value of £10), for all members of the winning kitchen. So that's a lunch giveaway of £120.
