Stop Hunger Day

Did you know one in seven children in the UK and Ireland go to school without breakfast? The 26th April marked Stop Hunger Day, a day where Sodexo employees were encouraged to fundraise for the charity and help tackle hunger in the UK and Ireland. The Sodexo Foundation is the charity behind Stop Hunger and the fundraising for it is a worldwide initiative which is currently active in over 40 countries with 30,000 employee volunteers. In 2015, with help from employees in the UK and Ireland £500,000 had been raised in total, whilst €2.5 million had been raised worldwide.

The Sodexo Foundation has teamed up with various charities to tackle hunger and promote healthy lifestyles. Stop Hunger invites the employees of Sodexo to volunteer and fundraise as well as donate to their local communities. There are a number of ways in which staff at Sodexo can do this. Some of these things include a Servathon, food donations, cake sales and other various fundraising ideas.

This year, Sodexo has continued to show their support for Stop Hunger with their fundraising marking 20 years of the companies commitment to Stop Hunger. Here at Southampton Solent University, Sodexo employee's gave money to Stop Hunger and in return had a non-uniform day to promote the event. To fundraise further, charity boxes were put on each outlet to encourage the students and staff at Solent University to join us with our fundraising efforts.

The fundraising was a great success and we are very thankful to the students and staff at the university who helped us raise money. You can find out more information about Stop Hunger over on the Sodexo Foundation's website.
