There's a big football game happening on the South Coast this weekend and we don't mean Southampton vs Arsenal. No, it's the fifth round of the Buildbase FA Vase and Team Solent are facing competition favourites South Shields. We caught up with the Captain of Team Solent & Sodexo sponsored HPAthlete, Jesse Waller Lassen to chat about food and football.

I'm Jesse Waller Lassen, 24 years old. I play football and I'm studying Applied Sport Science at Solent University.
Tell us a bit about our career highlights so far.
I signed a professional contract with Tottenham Hotspur when I was 18. With Team Solent I have won the League Cup and Southampton Senior Cup. Along the way I have scored over 100 gaols and for the past 3 years I have been named the Team Captain.
Let's talk food. What are your preferred outlets to eat from on campus?
I mostly visit the East Park Deli (in the Spark) as the food is quick, easy and healthy. That's not to say I don't eat in the Dock. I have the salads from the Natural bar but also enjoy the roast dinner options from Originals.
I don't have a routine as such. I just tend to keep it pretty light, nothing too heavy. Saying that I do always try and have some kind of egg dish. 3 boiled eggs on toast is a favourite. Right before the game I have ca cereal bar and, if I can, an espresso to get that caffeine kick.
According to your Twitter bio you're a Michelin Star Chef, so with that in mind do you have any tips around eating healthily?
Haha, there's a lot of things on my bio that aren't entirely true. I get chefs following me and people asking questions. But I am part metal!
I do enjoy cooking and as I result I'm always researching food and learning new ways and techniques of how to cook and deliver a good plate of food. I would say to people never eat for the sake of it and where you can always cook something from scratch. That way you know exactly what's in your food and you can keep on top of your diet that way.
